Classic Bread Dressing

Ingredients

  • 30 slices white bread, lightly toasted
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 2 tbsp water (optional)
  • 2 tsp rubbed sage
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste

    Let toasted bread sit out on baking sheets for 24 hrs to harden.

    Prep all ingredients once bread is ready.

    Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease a 9x13 baking dish.

    Crush bread into crumbs using a rolling pin. Place in a large bowl.

    Sauté onion and celery in melted butter for 5--7 mins. Drain.

    Mix bread crumbs with broth and eggs until moist (not mushy). Add water if needed. Stir in cooked veggies, sage, garlic powder, salt & pepper.

    Press the mixture into your baking dish.

    Bake ~1 hour, until top is golden and crisp.
